Missing You, Summer Weirdness

Weird weird summer, are you really behind? I can’t believe I miss you greatly. I miss all the shades of blue on the Freedom Tower and the blues they made me feel. I miss the empty city, its empty pools, empty cabs, empty subways, empty shopping carts. I miss that surreal white van packed with dozens of empty water containers. I miss those Park Slope houses covered with all kinds of greens. I wish I would feel as prepared as Ali, when the storm hit The Shed at Hudson Yards and the People’s Beach at Jacob Riis Park. But I’m not ready to Fall in the red hole of Winter just yet. I miss jumping the fence at Storm King and I miss every kind of art in the streets of Lower Manhattan. I miss when we layed down under the rainbow at Glen Falls House. I miss the taste of watermelon and the smell of yellow tomatoes. But here we are, beach umbrellas are down, face masks stay up and proud, and the sun sets behind the skyline. Weird weird summer, now that you’re a souvenir, you got me feeling ready for a strange strange winter in New York City.
