Deep in the jungle

of thoughts

One day, we really should talk about our journeys through space. I know it’s complex, abstract, a black hole—whatever you might call it, but I’m certain our experiences of daydreaming are similar; it has been a family trait after all. Do you remember our father, sitting at the family table, alone in the darkness, bare-chested and barefoot, in faded jeans, with a cigarette in one hand and a glass of whiskey within reach? He was lost in his thoughts, far away in his own galaxy, absorbed. That’s how I like to imagine him now, as he has ventured indefinitely among the stars.

Shall we call these spatial absences our nebulas? They lend a dynamic quality, contrasting sharply with the contemplative state into which they plunge us. So, Lorelei Lolly Lou, tell me about your nebula, the one that teleports you into the jungle of your thoughts, nonsensical yet coherent, chaotic yet ordered. More potent than dreams, it’s a celestial delight, deeply embedded in our DNA. It might attract mockery from others, yet it cradles us. Inactive, powerless, levitating, we are touched by intergalactic grace.
